Following his concerts in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Sept. 9 and 10, Blake Shelton wrote one massive check to a local children’s hospital. The country star donated $600,000 to the Jimmy Everest Center, an Oklahoma University hospital for children with blood cancer and blood disorders.

During his Saturday night (Sept. 10) concert, Shelton welcomed two doctors from the Jimmy Everest Center to the stage and presented them with a $600,000 check — money raised through his two Oklahoma City shows.

“They don’t turn any kids away. You come in there, you have a problem, they don’t turn anybody away,” Shelton told the crowd in Oklahoma City, “so I thought, ‘That’s a place that needs some money.’”

Onstage, Shelton explained that his desire to donate to the hospital comes because of a personal connection: His cousin’s daughter, Aspen, was diagnosed with cancer in 2015. She was treated at the Jimmy Everest Center.

“We didn’t know what was going to happen,” Shelton said, with his cousin and her daughter standing with him onstage, earning cheers when he added, “and you can see that she’s here right now.”

Shelton’s fall tour, which began with the Oklahoma City concerts, is scheduled to run through early October. The singer is also keeping busy filming a new season of The Voice. In January, he will join Luke Bryan in Mexico for Crash My Playa 2017.
