Blake Shelton’s ‘If I’m Honest’ Debuts at No. 1
If I’m Honest sold 153,000 copies in its first week, earning Shelton the top spot on Billboard‘s Top Country Albums and Top Album Sales charts; its his third consecutive project to hit No. 1 on the Country Albums chart. According to a press release, Shelton’s first-week sales numbers make If I’m Honest the biggest-selling country album in a debut week since October of 2015, and give Shelton the second-biggest debut week of his career.
“At almost 40 years old and 15 years in this business, who would’ve ever thought I would have the biggest week of my career now,” Shelton says in a press release. “No. 1 album, No. 1 song and No. 1 movie — I am beside myself, my friends. Thank you for an incredible journey …”
As Shelton alludes to, If I’m Honest‘s first single, “Came Here to Forget,” has also reached No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, as well as on the Country Aircheck chart, becoming his 17th consecutive No. 1 single, and his 22nd No. 1 single overall. Additionally, The Angry Birds Movie, in which Shelton voices a character, is at the top at the box office.
Shelton’s flying high now, but in recent interviews, he’s admitted that his life a year ago — around the time of his divorce from Miranda Lambert — wasn’t so great. The country star says that it was new girlfriend Gwen Stefani who helped pull him out of that dark place.
“Sometimes when you think things couldn’t be worse and you can’t make it through another day, you never know what’s right around the corner that can save your life — that’s literally what happened for me,” Shelton says. “The fact that we were able to be there for each other and relate to each other in that way like nobody else on Earth … There’s so much out there that is crazy, to have a shoulder and somebody that can be there for you and relate and understand, it literally saved my life.”
