Ferris says, Don’t miss Alan Tudyk’s Resident Alien renewed for a second season at SYFY

Alan Tudyk’s comedy-drama series Resident Alien has officially been renewed for a second season at SYFY, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Season 1 finale will air on March 31. The series stars Tudyk in the lead role and is based on the Dark Horse graphic novel of the same name created by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse. SYFY revealed that the series ranks as the highest-rated new drama on the cable network in more than six years, with the premiere pulling in 9.3 million total viewers across all platforms.

“With Resident Alien, everything just came together in perfect harmony — a script by Chris Sheridan that leapt off the page, a lead performance by Alan Tudyk, whose nuance between comedy and menace was pitch-perfect, and a team of producers, cast and crew who were all striving to do something great,” said president of scripted content for NBCUniversal TV and streaming Lisa Katz. “The appeal of this show transcended the sci-fi genre in a way that enabled us to bring in a broader audience, and as the series continues we hope to encourage more and more fans to discover Harry’s very particular perspective on humans.”

The series was developed for the screen by Chris Sheridan (Family Guy, Titus) and is produced as a joint venture by Universal Cable Productions, Dark Horse Entertainment, and Amblin Television, with Sheridan executive producing the project alongside Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, Justin Falvey, and Darryl Frank.

Tudyk is joined by Sara Tomko (Sneaky Pete), Corey Reynolds (Murder in the First), Alice Wetterlund (People of Earth), and Levi Fiehler (Mars), with Tudyk playing Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle, a reclusive resident of a small Colorado town whose identity is taken over by an alien that crash lands on earth. When the town’s doctor is murdered, the alien has to put his secret mission aside and take the doctor’s place, helping solve crimes and treat those in town.

Tomko plays town resident Astra Twelvetrees, who makes the alien’s mission difficult, while Reynolds portrays ruthless and unethical sheriff Mike Thompson. Wetterlund plays former Olympic snowboarder turned ski patrol member D’Arcy Bloom, who enjoys using a mortar launcher to blow off steam, and Fiehler stars as college graduate Ben Hawthorne, who is dealing with the aftermath of a grisly murder.

The first three episodes of the series are available to stream on Peacock, with additional episodes arriving every Friday.
