Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood Share Christmas Duets Album Details
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood‘s long-rumored duets album is coming to fruition … as a holiday record. Brooks first revealed the news on Saturday (Oct. 8) in a Facebook Live chat, and is set to share more details during Monday night’s (Oct. 10) Inside Studio G live chat.
Titled Christmas Together, Brooks and Yearwood’s Christmas album will include songs such as “Ugly Christmas Sweater,” “Merry Christmas Means I Love You” and “What I’m Thankful For,” Brooks shared during Saturday’s Facebook Live chat, which also included Yearwood and a member of Brooks’ record label team. “What I’m Thankful For” will feature James Taylor and his wife Kim, MusicRow reports.
“[Yearwood]’s got three or four singles, I’ve got three or four singles, and we have three or four duets on it,” Brooks explains. “Even on the ones that are mine, she’s still doing background harmony stuff like we always have our entire career.”
The rendition of “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?” on Christmas Together was intended to be a duet, but after Yearwood sang the first verse, Brooks “just walked out.”
“The producer’s looking at me as I passed the board. I’m like, ‘I can’t contribute to that. Just let her have the whole thing,’” he recalls. “It was gorgeous. It may be my favorite record on the record.”
Brooks and Yearwood have been talking about recording a duets album together for years. In late 2014, Yearwood shared that a duets record was “definitely on the list,” and in early 2015, Brooks said that the couple was trying to get the project out that year.
Brooks is currently on the road for his World Tour, with Yearwood as his special guest. He will release a new box set, The Ultimate Collection, on Nov. 11; the project will feature nine discs of music from Brooks’ catalog, as well as some previously unreleased songs, and the 10th disc will be an exclusive version of Brooks’ still-unnamed new album, featuring Target-only bonus tracks.
