Grand Ole Opry Throwing Party for Upcoming Solar Eclipse
The legendary Grand Ole Opry is throwing a party for the historic total solar eclipse that will occur on Aug. 21, 2017. The Opry — and all of Nashville — will be directly in the path of the eclipse, during with the sun will disappear behind the moon, and the organization will celebrate with two days of special events.
“As one of the biggest stars in the universe goes dark on Monday, Aug. 21, during the historic total eclipse [of] 2017, the Grand Ole Opry will bring out some of music’s biggest stars to brighten one of the most famous stages in the world,” a press release from the Grand Ole Opry announces. Those planned events include a party in the Opry’s plaza on the day of the eclipse and a special edition of the Grand Ole Opry the day before.
On Aug. 20, Little Big Town, Darius Rucker and Wynonna Judd are slated to perform at a special Sunday-night edition of the Grand Ole Opry; additional artists who will play that night will be announced in the coming weeks. On Aug. 21, at 11AM, the Opry’s Total Eclipse Plaza Party will begin, featuring live music, themed food and drinks and a specially crafted soundtrack to accompany the two minutes when the moon will totally eclipse the sun. Performers for the event have yet to be announced.
In addition to those two special events, the Opry is also planning Grand Ole Opry tours both after the show on Sunday night and during the day on Monday. These tours will focus on highlights from the lives of Opry stars whose careers have “eclipsed all others in the field” (get it?).
Tickets for and more details about the Grand Ole Opry’s eclipse-related events are available on the Opry website. The total solar eclipse will begin around 11:58AM on Aug. 21 and conclude around 2:54PM; the moon will completely eclipse the sun around 1:27PM.
