The (not at all officially reunited) classic-era lineup of Guns N’ Roses have reportedly been asked to headline a Portuguese summer music festival, according to unconfirmed reports from a local music magazine.

Blitz offered no further details, other than the dates of a few possible 2016 festival options – including Rock in Rio Lisboa. Still, they surmised that this kind of interest means a reunion is “ever closer.” Our advice? Don’t book those plane tickets quite yet.

Two different band storylines have added fuel to this recent series of unsubstantiated rumors. It has been confirmed that Axl Rose and his long-estranged former bandmate Slash are on speaking terms again. At the same time, the current edition of Guns N’ Roses fell partially apart when two of their guitarists, DJ Ashba and Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal went their separate ways.

Initial word then had it that a reunited Guns N’ Roses were set to play a date in Australia, though that was quickly shot down when a tour promoter there denied he was in talks with Guns N’ Roses to headline the Soundwave festival in 2016.

“If a reunion does happen, it is going to take longer than six months for the band to be ready to tour,” AJ Maddah, the promoter, told Music Feeds. I think it’ll take a hundred lawyers six months just to get the five of them into a rehearsal room together.”

Perhaps the most famous partial reunion of their best-known lineup came in 2012, when Guns N’ Roses were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Slash, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler were on hand for that, though Rose and Izzy Stradlin elected to stay away.
