Hold the Phone! New ‘Halloween’ Film to Hit Theaters October 19th 2018!
A few days ago it was announced that the next installment in the Friday the 13th franchise was canned, despite a casting call hitting the web a week prior. Many people believed it was due to Blair Witch, Rings (aka Ring 3), Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and Underworld: Blood Wars performing far below expectations at the box office; the general consensus being that horror sequels and reboots are a dying breed. Well, there’s one old-school horror franchise that’s going strong and hoping to make a come back in October 2018.
Last year it was announced that John Carpenter – The Fog, The Thing, Escape from New York hitmaker – was coming back to the Halloween franchise to direct a new sequel along with producer Jason Blum. Originally it was believed that Carpenter would have a much bigger role in the production, serving as writer, director, or both, but now it looks like he’ll be serving as executive producer on Halloween 9 (or Halloween 11 if you count the remakes). He also let it slip that he might score the movie!
In a Facebook post, John Carpenter felt excited about the upcoming production after hearing the pitch from David Gordon Green and Danny McBride and Carpenter confirmed that David and Danny will pen the script and David will direct the feature. Danny McBride is most known for writing episodes of drama “Eastbound & Down” and comedy 2011’s Your Highness. David Gordon Green is most known for directing Pineapple Express. Despite the duo’s deep connection to the comedy genre, none of that will be visible in the new Halloween.

So you say you want a Revolution?
You want to shake things up and bring back Halloween and make it rock again?
So here’s the announcement you’ve all been waiting for:
David Gordon Green and Danny McBride are joining the project to complete the creative team. David and Danny will write the script together and David will direct. I will continue in my executive producer role to consult and offer my advice and feedback as needed.
David and Danny both came to my office recently with Jason Blum and shared their vision for the new movie and…WOW. They get it. I think you’re gonna dig it. They blew me away.
I might even do the music. Maybe. It could be kind of cool.
And you’ll get to see it in theaters on October 19th, 2018.
