How is ‘Annabelle: Creation’ an Origin Story if ‘Annabelle’ Already Was?
You’ve maybe asked yourself this question. And there’s an answer to it.
A prequel to The Conjuring, 2014 film Annabelle served as an origin story for the nightmarish doll that was featured in James Wan’s 2013 hit. That’s all good and well. But how is this year’s Annabelle: Creation a prequel to Annabelle if we already learned that “creation” story in, well, Annabelle?!
Director David F. Sandberg promises that it all makes sense.
Sandberg (@ponysmasher) tweeted today…
Annabelle Creation fits into the timeline even though we saw the doll get possessed in the first film. Exactly how spoils the end though. You don’t need to have seen the first Annabelle to enjoy/understand Creation but you’ll get a little extra out of the ending if you have.
We’ll find out on August 11th, 2017!
In Annabelle: Creation, “Several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.”
The full cast includes Stephanie Sigman (Spectre), Talitha Bateman (The 5th Wave), Lulu Wilson (upcoming Ouija 2,Deliver Us from Evil), Philippa Anne Coulthard (After the Dark), Grace Fulton (Badland), Lou Lou Safran (The Choice), Samara Lee (Fox Catcher,The Last Witch Hunter), Tayler Buck in her feature film debut, with Anthony LaPaglia (TV’s Without a Trace) and Miranda Otto (Showtime’s Homeland,The Lord of the Rings Trilogy).
Sandberg directed from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman, who also wrote Annabelle.
