Is Marilyn Manson Working on a Country Project?
Music fans may soon see an unexpected name attached to a country music project: Marilyn Manson.
The shock rocker recently revealed that he is collaborating with Korn frontman Jonathan Davis — who himself revealed in late May that he was working with Big & Rich on a country project — and may end up with some “Southern-sounding” material of his own as well.
“Jonathan and I used to be really close. We hadn’t seen each other in quite some time,” Manson tells MetalHammer.com; the two previously collaborated on the song “Redeemer,” for the 2002 movie Queen of the Damned. ”Now he and I are talking about doing something completely unexpected together.”
While that news alone doesn’t confirm Manson’s country project — after all, “completely unexpected” could mean many things — his comments during a recent Reddit “AMA,” after a fan asked if Manson would ever do an acoustic project, provide some more details.
“That’s some of the plans of the style of music that I’m working on right now. I don’t know what it’ll turn into,” Manson says. “Some of it will be with Jonathan Davis, I think. Because he has plans of doing something similar as well. Something that might even cross over the boundaries of being more Southern-sounding.”
More and more rock artists seem to be feeling the pull to country music. Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler recently released his debut country single, “Love Is Your Name,” from his upcoming freshman country album with Big Machine Label Group, and rapper Nelly has previously appeared on songs with both Tim McGraw (“Over and Over”) and Florida Georgia Line (“Cruise“) and has also announced that he will be releasing a country EP as well.
