Karl Urban in Talks for Role in “Judge Dredd: Mega-City One”

Unfortunately, we’re probably never getting a sequel to the badass 2012 film Dredd, which starred Karl Urban as the title character. Urban was perfectly cast in the role, so it’s a huge bummer that a sequel seems like such an impossibility.

That said, live-action TV series “Judge Dredd: Mega-City One” is in the works, and it’s very possible that Urban will be making an appearance to reprise his role. Talks of Urban’s involvement date back a few months, and at this past weekend’s Star Trek Las Vegas Convention he provided an update on the possibility.

“I am in discussions with them about that,” Urban revealed. “I told them that if they write the material and give Dredd something to do and give him a function, I will be there. I would love to.”

IM Global and independent U.K. games developer and publisher Rebellion are currently developing the TV series.

Initial reports peg the series as set in a future where the East Coast of the U.S. has become a crime-ridden megalopolis. The ensemble drama will follow a team of Judges — futuristic cops invested with the power to be judge, jury, and executioner — as they deal with the challenges the future-shocked 22nd century throws at them.
