Kelly Clarkson is a true performer: She can go from sassy to soulful at the drop of a hat, and she did exactly that on the 2016 CMA Country Christmas TV special on Monday night (Nov. 28), with “Run Rudolph Run” and “Please Come Home for Christmas.”

“Run Rudolph Run,”a 12-bar blues song, was written by Johnny Marks and Marvin Brodie and popularized by Chuck Berry in 1958. Clarkson’s version showcased her massive vocals, and the entire piece was a showstopper: Dancers, a brass band, and a whole lot of personality from Clarkson made it a standout of the evening. Clarkson also performed the 1960 Christmas song “Please Come Home for Christmas;” it was released by blues singer Charles Brown and has been a popular holiday song ever since — everyone from the Eagles and Bon Jovi to Willie Nelson and Martina McBride has covered it! For that performance, Clarkson’s soulful side came out, complete with vocal runs, and the stage featured a glowing jukebox at the back; readers can press play below to watch.

Clarkson will keep herself in the holiday spirit with her second Miracle on Broadway charity show, set to take place at Bridgestone Arena on Dec. 16. In addition to Clarkson herself, artists scheduled to perform at the event include Reba McEntireRonnie DunnKelsea BalleriniRaeLynnCharles Esten and the SteelDrivers.
