Miley Cyrus has been promoting LGBTQ awareness and transgender acceptance this year, both through her visibility as an (exhibitionist) celebrity and with her talent in a series of Backyard Session performances. Last night (June 16) she was honored for her work at amFAR’s annual Inspiration Gala, and she brought a special guest as her date.Cyrus arrived at the event with Tyler Ford, who is a former contestant on Oxygen’s “The Glee Project” and a photographer and poet as well. The “Wrecking Ball” singer provided some context for people who may not be familiar with self-identified “agender” people in an Instagram post: ”Tyler is a queer, biracial, agender person, whose pronouns are they/them/theirs.”

Miley wore a red gown covered in giant hearts, while her date wore a more understated black dress. The two posed for the above photo with Orange is the New Black actress Laverne Cox.

The pop star also shared this adorable shot of the two of them, dressed in sunny yellow, from the #Instapride photo shoot.
