Miranda Lambert Launches Her Own Sony Music Nashville Label Imprint
When Miranda Lambert‘s new album, The Weight of These Wings, drops on Nov. 18, it’ll be the first release on a brand-new label imprint, Vanner Records, a joint venture between Lambert and her longtime label home, Sony Music Nashville.
According to a press release, creating a label imprint “was the natural next step” in Lambert’s relationship with Sony Music Nashville.
“Re-signing Miranda to Sony Music Nashville and helping her create Vanner Records has been absolutely one of the highlights of my 15 months at Sony Music Nashville,” says Sony Music Nashville Chairman and CEO Randy Goodman. “Miranda as an artist represents everything we want to be as a record company, and her energy and vision will help drive us forward as well.”
Since her debut major-label album, 2005’s Kerosene, Lambert has been part of the Sony Music Nashville family. She signed with Epic Nashville in September of 2003, only a few months after placing third on the first season of Nashville Star; her second and third records (2007’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and 2009’s Revolution) were released via SMN’s Columbia Nashville; and her last two releases (2011’s Four the Record and 2014’s Platinum) were released on RCA Nashville.
Back in 2014, Lambert admitted that, despite having a number of business ventures in her portfolio, in addition to her music, she “never thought” about starting her own label.
“It’s so much to think about. It’s a gamble, which everything is,” she said at the time. “I feel like I’ve kind of got the music business figured out, and as soon as I do, there’s a new corner turned or a new streaming thing going on or whatever’s happening.”
The Weight of These Wings will be a double album; the first disc will be called “The Nerve,” and the second one will be called “The Heart.”
