Alice Braga Taking Rosario Dawson’s Place in ‘New Mutants’
Rosario Dawson has dropped out of X-Men spinoff New Mutants for undisclosed reasons, while Alice Braga (“Queen of the South”) has stepped in to take her place.
The news comes courtesy of THR, the site noting that Braga will now be playing Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a medical doctor who has the ability to generate a protective bio-field around herself but also has more going on than she lets on.
As we recently told you, this one will be a “full-fledged horror movie.”
“13 Reasons Why” star Henry Zaga was recently cast to play Roberto da Costa a.k.a Sunspot, a mutant with the ability to absorb and channel solar power. Blu Hunt is Danielle Moonstar, the Native American telepath also known as “Mirage”.
Split star Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams of “Game of Thrones” are also signed up for the project with Taylor-Joy playing Illyana Rasputin, also known as Magik, who uses teleportation. Williams is on board as Rahne Sinclair, a.k.a. Wolfsbane, who can turn into a wolf. Charlie Heaton will play Sam Guthrie, a.k.a. Cannonball.
The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone is helming from a script he co-wrote with Knate Lee about teenage superheroes-mutants being held against their will.
New Mutants is in pre-production and has been set for an April 13, 2018 opening.
