Russell Crowe to Star in Stephen King’s ‘Revival’?!
It was announced this past February that Josh Boone will put The Stand on the back-burner and instead move forward on another Stephen King story, Revival, which has New Line legend Michael De Luca attached to produce.
Published in 2014, “the book follows a preacher who loses his faith when his wife and child are killed in an accident. He soon becomes obsessed in his experimentation into the healing power of electrical current, positioning him to act as God-like faith healer. Intertwined with the preacher is a young man with demons of his own, who has benefited from the preacher’s talents and becomes a reluctant accomplice to his deadly obsession.”
At the time EW was reporting that the preacher could be played by none other than Samuel L. Jackson, although in a recent interview with Creative Screenwriting Boone tells the site that Russell Crowe – who can next be seen in The Mummy opposite Tom Cruise – will star in the adaptation.
“I have a good relationship with Stephen King, so when I wanted to adapt his novel ‘Revival’ I really just went and asked him,” he told the site. “I was able to write it in a very pleasant bubble and we attached Russell Crowe.”
Explained EW, “The character of Charles Jacobs is one of King’s most interesting and complex: he’s a charismatic, small-town preacher who begins experimenting with the supernatural using electricity after his wife and child are killed in an accident. This is a story from the mind of Stephen King, so things only get more twisty and darker from there.”
Boone also revealed that Revival will be his next feature once he completes Marvel’s New Mutants, the next installment in the X-Men franchise, which is described as a Stephen King-styled horror movie.
