Steven Tyler releases Debut Country Single, ‘Love Is Your Name’
The song is full of flawless harmonies and even sports the autoharp, made popular by Mother Maybelle Carter and June Carter Cash. At the forefront is Tyler’s recognizable voice — the one that made songs like “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” and “Dream On” major hits.
The rocker has dabbled in country for quite a while now, working with artists like Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban on various performances and recordings, and he explains that country music has been in his roots and heart since he was a young kid.
“Country music means so much to me because it’s the first records I ever sang along with, and that would be the Everly Brothers, who first opened up my eyes to start singing way back at the age of nine,” Tyler says.
“My inspiration for “Love Is Your Name” came when I was invited to the Bluebird Cafe with Marti Frederiksen, who I wrote “Jaded” with, to perform that song and another little ditty I wrote called “Dream On” on the piano, and after we were done, this beautiful young lady sat down and did a song called “Love Is Your Name,”” he adds. “Well, I fell in love with it that night, and a guy comes up to the table, introduced himself as Scott Borchetta, said he had this big label in Nashville. And I said, ‘You know, that’s been on the back burner of mine for years, is to do a country record.’ So I joined up with him, and the rest is gonna be history.”
Rumors of Tyler’s country project began swirling in mid-March, but the musician did not officially announce his plans until the end of that month, during a surprise appearance at the Grand Ole Opry. Tyler’s new deal with Borchetta’s Big Machine Label Group was announced in early April, and he revealed the first details of this new song at the end of that month.
“Love Is Your Name” is available for download via iTunes. The Aerosmith frontman will perform the song during the season finale of American Idol on Wednesday (May 13). His debut country album’s title, release date and track listing have not been released.
