Taron Egerton in talks to lead Little Shop of Horrors remake

Full Circle Cinema is reporting that Golden Globe winner Taron Egerton (Rocketman) is in talks to star in the Little Shop of Horrors remake. While the role has not officially been confirmed, the outlet shares it’s likely Egerton would star as Seymour Krelborn who was played by Rick Moranis in Frank Oz’s 1986 film adaptation of the 1960 film which inspired Alen Menken, Howard Ashman, and Miles Goodman’s off-Broadway musical.

Full Circle also revealed, via Collider’s Jeff Sneider, that Scarlett Johannson “has the offer for Audrey” while Billy Porter is being eyed to voice Audrey II.

The 1986 Little Shop of Horrors follows a florist shop worker, Seymour, who finds out his Venus flytrap can speak. Within the NYC backdrop, his love for his attractive coworker Audrey leads him to name the plant Audrey II. However, as Audrey II begins to grow rapidly, its appetite becomes insatiable. Seymour then begins to feed the Venus flytrap humans, beginning with Audrey’s abusive boyfriend.

The movie became a cult classic and received two Oscar nominations for Best Effects, Visual Effects and Best Music, Original Song while the off-Broadway horror comedy rock musical has toured worldwide. Based on the 1960 film, the musical premiered in 1982 and won the Drama Desk Award for Best Musical.
