‘The Final Girls’ Star Malin Akerman Playing the Villain in ‘Rampage’
Thanks to The Final Girls, I became a lifelong fan of several actors, including Malin Akerman. The actress played the trapped-in-the-’80s Amanda Cartwright/Nancy, and she brought so much heart and humanity to the role. Today I’m incredibly happy to hear that Akerman is in negotiations to join giant monster movie Rampage, an adaptation of the 1980s video game.
The news comes courtesy of THR, and the site notes that Akerman will play the film’s villain, a calculating head of a tech company that is behind the monsters being unleashed.
Director Brad Peyton’s cast also includes Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Joe Manganiello, Marley Shelton, Naomie Harris, Jack Quaid, Matt Gerald, Jake Lacy, Breanne Hill, and P.J. Byrne.
The New Line film is based on the 1986 arcade game from Bally Midway, which allowed players to select either George the Gorilla, Lizze the Lizard, or Ralph the Werewolf and then embark on a mission to destroy city after city. All three creatures will be in the movie and you can expect them to wreak havoc on various North American cities and landmarks.
Ryan Engle wrote the original draft of the adaptation, and Adam Sztykiel most recently came in to do some revisions. Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal also worked on the script.
