You in Revolt Review

The 411:“Youth in Revolt” is the story of Nick Twisp, a unique but affable teen with a taste for the finer things in life like Sinatra and Fellini. Nick falls hopelessly in love with the beautiful, free-spirited Sheeni Saunders (Portia Doubleday) while on a family vacation. The Good: This is the “family movie of the year” and gives every adolescent obsession and rebellious teen a chance. It’s more “real life” then Hollywood because you know that the Nick character in this movie is real and at some point you have been in his shoes. If you had listened to your bad alter ego, you may have gotten that one girl and we have all had those feelings or thoughts while growing up. His “secret friend or alter ego” is the one that tells him to open up and jump out of the protective shell that he’s currently calling home. When he does, it works to his advantage. Shenni makes Nick do things he would never expect or do normally and becomes a better man when the dust settles.  The Bad: The reality is left to your imagination and you figure out quickly that nobody could or would get away with what this kid gets away with. As with most movies, its predictable, kind of ridiculous and over the top but that’s what makes the movie so good.  The Last Word: The “feel good movie of the year” and if you walk out of the theater without a smile on your face, something is really wrong with you!

Theater, DVD, or Cable in a few years: It will be a success in any category but watching it in a theater with surround sound is so worth it!
