Decibel Magazine is hosting an exclusive premiere of “Sacred Ivory,” the new single from Denver, Colorado trio THE MUNSENS, ahead of the song’s release this Friday.
2022 saw THE MUNSENS performing live sporadically, including supporting Monolord in Denver in March and playing Psycho Las Vegas in August, largely supporting their 2019-released Unhanded LP. “Sacred Ivory” is the first output from the group since Unhanded.
“Sacred Ivory” continues the faster, more aggressive style THE MUNSENS began to flesh out on Unhanded, taking their punk and doom influences into more death metal-influenced territory. The gnarled track was recorded in November 2022 with Felipe Patino at Green Door Recording in Denver and is completed with art by Martyrdoom Illustrations. The track will also appear on THE MUNSENS’ second LP, which they plan to record this Spring.
The band’s Michael Goodwin writes, “After a few strange years spent writing and, for the most part, laying low, it felt great to get back into the studio and finally lay down some of the new material we’ve been working on. We’d heard great things about Felipe and his studio from fellow Denver bands and wanted to check out a studio that was new to us. We jumped in with him for a day, messed around with some different ideas and equipment, and are really psyched on how the track came out. We are looking forward to getting more of this new material out.”
Decibel’s piece on the new song states, “It’s their first new music since 2019, and it’s got a lot more darkness and death metal… If this track is any indication of what is to come, which Goodwin says it is, we’re in for a pounding, heavy banger of a record.”
Hear THE MUNSENS’ “Sacred Ivory” first through Decibel Magazine now at THIS LOCATION.
“Sacred Ivory” will be released across all digital platforms this Friday, January 13th.
The band is currently working on summer 2023 dates. Watch for updates to post throughout the year as they complete the new album.
