He Was A God explains “‘Class Dismissed’ is not a song about guns. It’s a song about kids. Kids who are senselessly and tragically killed by other kids. The abject horror of the American school shooting is magnified by a sensationalist media and a legislature so compromised by special interests that it seems as though nothing will ever change. The lobbyists, loonies, and lawmakers count on us to shut up, to forget, and to move on. We won’t. We are from Connecticut. Sandy Hook is our backyard. We won’t forget. And we won’t let you forget, either.”
Ignored wish
Signs were missed
The dream of inclusion could not be achieved
The boy’s only friend was a full magazine
Class dismissed
They’ll pay attention to you now
And everyone will know your name
It really doesn’t matter how
Weapons stowed
No one knows
Seeing them all with their smiles and friends
Determined to make sure they don’t laugh again
Calm reload
Put your hands up, put your hands up
From the front to the back put your hands up
And from the side to the side put your hands up
Now scream
They’ll pay attention to you now
And everyone will know your name
It really doesn’t matter how
Hit the halls with a God in your hand
And you’ll make sure that they all understand
At the altar of your MP5
And they’re never gonna take you alive
No one survives
They’ll pay attention to you now
And everyone will know your name
It really doesn’t matter how
Running, screaming
No one’s leaving
Two in the chest
AR-15
Bullets streaming
A day that we’ll somehow forget
