LA’s All The Damn Vampires was founded in 2019 by musician Davey Oberlin. A synth lovers dream, with a strong emphasis on nostalgia, chill inducing guitar leads, and webs of neon bliss, All The Damn Vampires creates a cinematic and mesmerizing aesthetic vibe. Of the new split release and his contribution “Johnny’s Revenge”, Oberlin says, “Back in 2019 while touring and playing keyboard for Korn live, I started All The Damn Vampires as a way to express my love for synth based music. As an avid gamer I was excited to be approached by my long time friend and fellow musician Rocom to put a theme to a retro side scrolling game he was creating (Mighty Maniax: The Video Game). Pulling influences from NES greats like Castlevania and Ghouls ‘n Ghosts “Johnny’s Revenge” was born. Orange County rapper/producer ROCOM says, “Having this 7” Split with All The Damn Vampires and Stay Free Records drop today is a real culmination of my creative work. I met (Stay Free Recording’s founder) Jon Halperin when booking my old hip-hop act, Closed Heart Surgery, at Chain Reaction in Anaheim. It’s been 8 years since my last full length album, and I remember sending Jon my latest single off of the new record, “So So.” He had just landed in Chicago for work and we hadn’t talked in over a year. I was insecure about the first track off of the album since it had been so long that I had recorded anything new. I trusted Jon’s ear and sent him a link to the song, “Mona Lisa.” He listened and wrote back with “this is the best song you’ve ever done.” I thought he was joking. He wasn’t. We immediately started discussing putting the song out as a 7” vinyl single through Stay Free Recordings. I loved his vision for his new label. Make special runs of records and keep them at a Limited Edition of 200 units. I had just finished working on an indie toy project called Mighty Maniax, and my friend Davey Oberlin (All The Damn Vampires) had produced some music for it. When Jon mentioned the record could be a split with another band I knew it would be perfect to do with ATDV. But, not only does this 7” have 2 bands on it, each record also ships with a toy from my new action figure line, Mighty Maniax. It’s honestly a crazy drop for a vinyl. I’m so proud to have my very first record be connected to my art toys, the friends I’ve made in music, and Stay Free Recordings. Thousands of shows. Over ten thousand bands. From 2000-2006, he shaped Chain Reaction (Anaheim, CA) by booking such events as The Mars Volta’s first show, Death Cab for Cutie in 2002, Fall Out Boy as an opener, and some of Maroon 5’s first shows ever. Since 2006, Jon has been booking The Glass House (Pomona, CA) with events such as Weezer, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jesus and Marychain, Snoop Dogg, Refused, 2 Chainz, Mac Miller, etc. Jon books/booked music festivals such as Long Beach, CA’s Music Tastes Good (New Order, Janelle Monae, Ween, Sleater Kinney, The Specials, Lizzo, etc), Miami’s House of Creatives (Alt J, MGMT, MIA, Foster the People, etc), Isle of Light in the Dominican Republic (Gwen Stefani for March 2020 which unfortunately canceled due to the pandemic, Washed Out, Bad Bunny, etc), and Gridlife in three US cities (Killer Mike, Flosstradamus, Soulja Boy, Ghastly, Getter, Slander, etc). In 2017, Jon produced a sold-out live Bob’s Burgers music show in LA (two nights at the Orpheum). Jon also worked for such festivals as the Coachella Music and Arts Festival (2001-2016), First City Festival, All Tomorrow’s Parties (US & UK), Warped Tour, and Hootenanny.
