Alana Rey Discusses “Cam Girl,” Medellín and Eight Years in Webcamming

CHICAGO — In a new EMMReport interview, Colombian webcam performer and model Alana Rey reflects on eight years in the industry and the experience of appearing in a film project shot in the Medellín neighborhood where she grew up.

Rey said she was initially reluctant when filmmaker Jeff approached her about the project because she feared it could require her to cross her personal boundaries. She agreed after learning more about the story and having her part adapted into a solo performance.

Returning to her old neighborhood to film made for an unexpected emotional reckoning. “It made me feel so grateful that I could make it out of there,” she said, describing the experience as “a little bit therapeutic” and a way to see home “from another point of view.”

Rey’s entrance into webcam modeling followed the loss of a receptionist job. Needing an income while hoping to attend college, she discovered camming during a job search and initially regarded it as a short-term way to buy a new phone.

That temporary job became a lasting profession. Over eight years, she developed a career that also opened doors to other modeling assignments, including a Playboy shoot, while learning to navigate burnout and the pressures of online performance.

“A good show for me is when I’m enjoying what I’m doing,” Rey explained. For her, engagement and an authentic connection with viewers take precedence over chasing the largest token totals.

Rey also emphasized discipline, patience and limits for those entering the webcam industry. “You just need discipline,” she advised, describing boundaries that have helped her avoid pressure to become more explicit.

Her regular viewers have become a community she describes as friends. “Everything that I have reached is because of them, because of their support,” Rey said.
