LOS ANGELES — Rachel Steele looks back on more than two decades of independent production in a new conversation with Keith Mason for Adult DVD Talk. With more than 5,000 independently created videos credited to her career, Steele has often been responsible for both sides of a project: performing on camera and overseeing production. Moving into studio assignments has given her a different role and another way to reach viewers.

“Working with established studios has allowed me to arrive as the talent, trust another production team and see how they interpret Rachel Steele,” she explains. The change has enabled her to observe other creative teams’ approaches while maintaining the personal identity she has developed through her own company.

The conversation moves well beyond production strategy. Steele discusses trekking Everest, her experience overcoming addiction and leaving abusive relationships, and the role those experiences played in her confidence. “The confidence people see on camera wasn’t handed to me,” she tells Mason. “It was earned by surviving difficult things and realizing that I could create an entirely different life for myself.”

Steele also raises the possibility of turning her life experiences into a book or series. She does not announce a completed deal or publication schedule, but points to personal storytelling as a potential future direction.

Another subject is the boundary between fictional on-camera performance and what Steele chooses to share about her personal life. “I still keep certain moments just for us, but I enjoy deciding which parts of my private sexuality I want to share,” she says.
