This week on GIMME METAL:
Ripple Music Label Guest DJ Special – New episode! After launching the great Ripple Effect blog and radio show in 2007, Ripple Music inevitably became a label and go-to destination for the rise of great protometal reissues from the likes of the JPT Scare Band and Poobah. Today, the California label thrives with a slew of heavy/stoner/doom releases in its stable, including Warcloud, Cortez, High Priestess, Stonebirds, Wino, and more. Label co-founder Todd Severin takes over for a special on GIMME to display his wares and play some other faves of the genre. On this return episode, Severin takes a look at the Year End Doom 100 Chart (where Ripple bands took 16 spots!). Please consider leaving a tip in the jar to help all our musical friends affected by the pandemic.
Bloody Hammers Guest DJ Special – Fans of Bloody Hammers have been riding the Transylvania County, North Carolina-based husband and wife duo’s wave of heavy metal, doom, and goth rock since their formation in 2010 – but never have they encountered a haunt like this! While it doesn’t stray too far from the sound listeners have grown to adore, the band’s latest full-length offering, Songs Of Unspeakable Terror, explores territory yet uncharted by the band: retro-ized horror punk in all its gritty glory. GIMME is pleased to welcome Bloody Hammers to the guest DJ seat. Join Anders Manga (vocals, guitar, mellotron, drums) and Devallia (bass) in the live chat!
High On Fire: Matt Pike Interview Special with Jim Santanella – Jim Santanella talks to the one and only Matt Pike and takes a tour of High On Fire’s legendary discography, including their double LP The Art Of Self Defense which has just been reissued and is now on sale exclusively through the GIMME METAL Vinyl Club in limited run (visit shop.gimmeradio.com for further info). A landmark offering featuring Pike alongside drummer Des Kensel and bassist George Rice, The Art Of Self Defense is a massive record of cult worshipping proportions. Santanella will have an in-depth discussion with Pike about the record. In addition, the show will be peppered with an earlier interview with Pike plus two hours of High On Fire music! Don’t miss it.
Mörk Gryning Guest DJ Special – After fifteen years of slumber, Swedish black metal cult Mörk Gryning have awakened to unleash their fury upon the masses with their deadly new album Hinsides Vrede, out now on Season Of Mist. Galloping rhythms and crisp riffology coupled with soaring, melodic guitar lines show a drive to evolve in sound. The purveying doom still cloaks over the environs, but here’s some tried and true black metal lifers stretching into interesting directions not mired in past expectations. GIMME METAL welcomes the band for its first ever guest DJ special.
