One of the most influential rising global artists, Carín León, has received a nomination for the upcoming People’s Choice Country Awards. His collaboration with country star Kane Brown—“The One (Pero No Como Yo)”—is up for Collaboration Song of 2024 at the forthcoming awards. Voting is open to fans in the U.S. & P.R. until August 23 at: votepcca.com.
Released earlier this year, the track represents a career milestone for both artists and a landmark crossover between American country and música Mexicana. Watch the official video HERE.
Billboard details of the song, “The stripped-down country-tinged ‘The One (Pero No Como Yo)’ marks the first collab between León and Brown, who sublimely merge regional Mexican and country,” while The Tennessean says, “The track blends León’s multitude of Mexican influences while Brown sings over sections of the song crafted to mimic tropical house-style grooves drenched in classic reggae vibes.”
The song originally debuted in a live performance at the Premio Lo Nuestro Awards, and Brown came to support León from the audience as he achieved another milestone—his debut performance at Nashville’s iconic Grand Ole Opry in February.
Earlier this year, León made history at the first Latin artist ever to perform at both Coachella and Stagecoach in the same year. He also opened for The Rolling Stones on the Glendale, AZ stop of their tour.
León’s latest album Boca Chueca Vol. 1 is out now to great fanfare, and his Boca Chueca Tour 2024 sees stops across major cities in North America and Europe, including Chicago, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Nashville, Houston and Toronto, as well as a landmark performance at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Complete list of dates below.
“My new album is very special to me because it was created amidst concerts, award shows, and being on the road,” says Carín. “It is an embrace and a reconciliation with aspects that are often considered negative but are also part of me. These demons represent the pressure from people and critics, reflecting who Oscar Armando is as a human being translated into Carín. These songs capture important feelings of what I am experiencing. The cover reflects my essence and the transformation in this album, connected to my less gentle side.”
Boca Chueca Vol. 1 is the follow up to the hugely successful Colmillo de leche, which reached #8 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart last year, with three tracks reaching #1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican chart.
