| Acclaimed actress Jamie Bernadette will star in the series “The Legend of Firelily”, chronicling the life of American actress Shay Walker, who was sexually abused by a clergy as a child.
Now in production under the direction of Christian Hardy, the 10-episode series explores how Walker (played by Bernadette) overcome sexual abuse by the clergy as a child, and decades later prosecuted her abuser representing herself in court.
Leaving home because of sexual abuse at age 14, Walker built her “family” from a cast of characters that taught her the ropes of being a drug mule, to a bookie’s assistant, to a bartender, waitress, cook and anything else that paid the bills. She buried her entire family along the way with her mother being murdered as well as her brother. On top of this, the actress was also in a relationship that ended up with her being severely abused by malicious malware hacking technology. Her husband being the one being behind the mirrored screens of a digital nightmare.
Walker was waiting tables at a diner in New Orleans when Oscar nominated director Benh Zeitin selected her be Angela Darling in Wendy. Shay had a double debut at the Sundance Film Festival in 2020, also starring in Bloody Nose Empty Pockets by the Ross brothers. She went on to write and produce her own story with filmmaking partner Christian Hardy.
In addition to Bernadette, “The Legend of Firelily” will also star Gary Grubbs (‘’Treme’’, The X-Files), Mike Markoff (“Death Squad”), Dwight Henry (12 Years A Slave), Jeanne Young (“Home Free”), Dallas Schaefer (“Boytalk”) and Walker herself.
Walker is the producer, writer and director of “The Legend Of Firelily” as well as several native and social justice documentary projects through her partnership with Reel Tasty Media.
Filmmaker Christian Hardy was nominated in 2015 for best cinematography at the Madrid International Film Festival for his work on the experimental dance narrative Le Pain and 2020 for best cinematography in a feature film at the Nice International Film Festival for his work on Empire.
