Kali Uchis is the first woman to break the Top 10 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart with a new album in 2020 with her latest, Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) ∞, reaching #8 in its second week.
The Grammy and Latin Grammy-nominated artist’s second album and first in Spanish, Sin Miedo has accumulated 37 million global streams to date and reached #1 on Apple Music’s U.S. Latin chart, #6 and #7 on Spotify’s U.S. Albums and Global Albums charts respectively, #2 and #21 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums and Top Latin Albums charts respectively. Furthermore, Uchis is nominated for Best Dance Recording alongside Kaytranada at the 2021 Grammys for their collaboration “10%.”
The album continues to receive critical acclaim:
“Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) [is] her most honest work yet. The 26-year-old is a little dreamier, a little bolder, and a lot freer than she was two years ago when she released her genre-roving debut Isolation, a record that
cemented her place as pop’s misfit siren.”—Pitchfork
“Really beautiful, it feels like a real love letter to her past…It’s such a
romantic-feeling album…It’s so lush and her voice sounds amazing…an
excellent addition to her canon”—NPR Music’s All Songs Considered
“Kali Uchis dropped one of the best alt-R&B albums in recent memory with 2018’s Isolation, and she brings a similar sumptuous vibe to her new Spanish-language album… the entire album is a late-night vibe.”—Variety
“Singer-songwriter Kali Uchis opens her hypnotic new album Sin Miedo with a beautiful bolero titled ‘La Luna Enamorada,’ setting the tone for the rest of the
experimental 13-track set.”—Billboard
“In any language, her soulful alternative music remains fascinating. She lives up to the Sin Miedo title, not afraid to take risks with her music and
take it to the next level.”—Remezcla
“The Colombian-American star typically glides with a light touch, but trades in some sternum-rattling trap production here, like on the Rico Nasty-featuring ‘Aquí Yo Mando.’ She’s as versatile and elastic as ever.”—Mic
Executive produced by Tainy, the album features previously released tracks “la luna enamorada,” “te pongo mal (prendelo)” with Jowell & Randy, “La Luz” with Jhay Cortez—praised by HYPEBEAST as a “dreamy mid-tempo Latin groove”—and “Aquí Yo Mando” with Rico Nasty—which Uproxx called “sultry and smooth”—in addition to a collaboration with PARTYNEXTDOOR and eight new tracks.
Raised between Virginia and Colombia, Kali Uchis rose to prominence with her project Por Vida in 2015. Uchis’ 2018 debut album, Isolation, received widespread critical acclaim and was featured on Best Of lists in Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, NPR, Vulture and many more. Uchis has collaborated and shared stages with and more and has toured the world over, with much-lauded sets headlining Tropicalia and at Coachella, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza and many others.
