“THE KAT EDMONSON SHOW” CHRISTMAS LIVESTREAM TAKING PLACE DECEMBER 12 WITH FULL BAND
UPCOMING PERFORMANCES IN NYC, BOSTON AND NEW HAMPSHIRE
Fresh off the heels of releasing her brand new jazz holiday album, Holiday Swingin’! A Kat Edmonson Christmas Vol 1., Kat Edmonson is set to perform on “CBS Saturday Morning” on Christmas Day.
On December 12 at 8pm EST, Edmonson’s beloved ongoing livestream variety show “The Kat Edmonson Show” will see a special Christmas performance broadcast from GB’s Juke Joint studio in New York City and featuring Edmonson’s full band for the first time ever. Edmonson will be interacting with the audience virtually via chat. The show will be simulcast on her YouTube, Facebook and Twitter accounts—all of which are accessible on Kat.Live—as well as on the studio’s website. Tickets are “pay-what-you-will” and can be purchased HERE.
Edmonson’s album features reinterpreted versions of a host of holiday classics, including “Let It Snow,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” and “The Christmas Song.” Edmonson says of the recording process, “My band and I had so much fun recording all these Christmas classics, you can actually hear us laughing and joking around. This album is pure joy.”
Boston Herald describes the album as “impeccably hip,” and check out inclusion in Stereogum’s Christmas Music Preview HERE and JAZZIZ’s Holiday Album Guide HERE.
Edmonson has upcoming shows in New York City, Boston and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Complete list of dates below.
Edmonson was recently cast as a principal actor in the off-off Broadway musical The Hang by Taylor Mac, with music by Matt Ray and directed by Niegel Smith, where she will be playing the role of Cebes/S’wonderful. The Hang is a ritual celebration of queerness, questions, and the eternity of the moment. Rooted in the jazz tradition and operatic form, it imagines the final hours of Socrates’ life as he asks his friends to stay with him a little while longer. The Hang imagines these final moments as a centuries-long communal consideration of virtue (full of all styles of food, jazz, dance, debates, and queer romps). Through this foray into the calamities of our past intelligentsia, Taylor, Matt and their collaborators invite the audience to their party and create a performance, which advocates for a more inclusive and joyous world. Performances will begin January 7, 2022 and run through February 20, 2022. More info and tickets HERE.
Fresh off the heels of her critically acclaimed Dreamers Do LP, Edmonson was in the midst of a 40-city tour across the country when COVID struck the nation, forcing her back home. It was there she was able to pivot and create “The Kat Edmonson Show,” a beloved live, weekly variety show which she performed from her living room. She took live requests from the audience, performed skits, brought in guests, and hosted holiday specials for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and more. Her Christmas show saw over 12,000 viewers. During the pandemic, when the NPR “Morning Edition” Song Project called upon artists to write an original song inspired by the unique moment in American history, Edmonson penned “If You’re Scared” for the ongoing series. Read the interview and listen to the song HERE.

Edmonson’s most recent LP Dreamers Do was released just prior to the pandemic to widespread acclaim. The album combines mid-20th century Disney songs with familiar classics, and features two new original songs from Edmonson. The album reached the #1 spot on Billboard’s Traditional Jazz chart, and debuted #1 at iTunes Jazz, #2 Most Added at Jazzweek and was named Deezer’s Album of the Week upon release.
In 2018, Edmonson released Old Fashioned Gal, which Billboard called “an intimate journey from doubt to resolve and implied triumph.” NPR Music raved the album is “a handsome showcase for her songwriting, which has grown ever more confident over the last decade,” while the Associated Press said the record “sounds like an alternate soundtrack to an Audrey Hepburn film.”
In 2014 Edmonson released The Big Picture, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers, #1 on Contemporary Jazz Chart, and #2 on Total Jazz Chart. Her 2015 performance on “CBS This Morning: Saturday” garnered the program’s highest rated viewership since 2006. Her 2012 LP Way Down Low was described by The New York Times as “fresh as a spring bouquet,” and her performances at WNYC’s “Soundcheck” and Daytrotter were included in “Best Live Performances” and “Best Sessions of 2012,” respectively.
The Texas native began crafting her signature sound while performing in Austin’s local club circuit for years before releasing her debut LP Take To The Sky in 2009. She went on to tour worldwide with high profile acts including Lyle Lovett, Chris Isaak, Gary Clark Jr., Shawn Colvin, Willie Nelson, Smokey Robinson, Nick Lowe and more.
