Story: Ralph Greco, Jr.
Sebastian James announces the release of his full-length album Old School Cool as his single, “When We Were Young,” continues to climb the Billboard charts – currently at #23 and holding strong more than five weeks after its Billboard debut.
Old School Cool is destined to be a classic…. When Old School becomes New School you can bridge the gap and expand to a higher level, Sebastian James is a perfect example of New School Cool that’s Classic Old School.
Sebastian James says “Old School Cool gives listeners a behind-the-scenes look into the first 30 years of my life. In a sense, the album is an autobiography. Each song captures a fundamental moment in time that made me the person, artist, and father I am today.”
Sebastian James explains the album’s title stating “If I had to describe myself to a new listener in just three words, they would be Old School Cool. I am an old soul. I love classic cars, loud guitars, and old school rock n’ roll. I’m about the simple things. I prefer my cars to have a carburetor, my guitars paired with a vintage tube amp, and my music to be on vinyl.” With regards to recording his debut album Old School Cool, Sebastian James adds “We wanted the album to be recorded exactly how it would be performed live, so we tracked everything together and stayed true to our process. I’m talking 100-watt Marshall’s cranked to 11, big drums with no retriggering or quantization, an Ampeg SVT classic with a thunderous 8×10 cab, all topped with raw, powerful, organic vocals.”
Sebastian James is an American singer, songwriter, and musician from Kansas City, MO. Singing about young love, summer days, and experiencing the world through the rosy colored lens of yesteryear, James has resonated with rock and country fans across the globe, perfectly capturing those youthful feelings of euphoria.
James began touring professionally at age 18, showcasing his talents alongside acts such as Shinedown, Papa Roach, Korn, Poison, and Stone Temple Pilots, among others. His performances have graced globally renowned stages, from Hollywood’s Whisky a Go Go to the “World’s Largest Biker Bar” — the Full Throttle Saloon in Sturgis, SD where he appeared on seasons four and five of TruTV’s television series bearing the same name.
Alongside his musical pursuits, James achieved academic excellence, obtaining an MBA in 2018 with summa cum laude honors. That same year, he expanded his artistic endeavors by founding The Rock Gods — a sensational Vegas-style production paying homage to the genre’s most revered icons through pyrotechnic-laden arena rock performances.
2024 brought Sebastian James to the world stage once again with the launch of his solo project. The release of his debut single, “American Made,” fueled his emergence by reaching #39 on the Mediabase Top 40 charts, where it would remain for more than 14 weeks. His follow-up single, “When We Were Young,” propelled him further into the national spotlight, reaching #23 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Charts and #20 on the iHeart Radio Adult Contemporary Charts — an accolade that only few can lay claim.
His highly anticipated full-length record, Old School Cool is slated for release October 4, 2024 under Tungsten Records — an independent label that James has co-founded. The album was mastered by Dave Collins, a Grammy Award winning mastering engineer who’s worked with a laundry list of iconic superstars like Black Sabbath, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Metallica and many more.
