Today, Hudson Valley, NY-based alt-rockers Soul Blind have released their new EP Third Chain on Other People Records. Third Chain packs a walloping amount of 90’s nostalgia into its three tracks, recalling legends like Swervedriver, Alice in Chains, and The Smashing Pumpkins, while retaining a modern sound all its own. Title track “Third Chain” boasts angular guitar riffs and a powerful straight ahead groove, accompanied by a music video that captures the band performing in a kaleidoscope of swirling colors through a fisheye lens. “Misplaced” and “Phantom Pool” explore the eminently shoegaze side of the trio’s sound, lyrically tackling the emotions that come with self-reflection and intense relationships. Recorded with Jon Markson and Adam Cichocki, each track on the EP builds on a lush wall of guitars and ethereal vocals that crescendo with headbang-worthy intensity without losing any of their hazy beauty. Third Chain is streaming now and available for purchase here.
The band will also be hitting the road this fall for an East Coast tour with Koyo. A full list of tour dates can be found below.
On the message and sonic mission of the EP, the band has this to say
“The EP serves as a lot of self reflection lyrically, as well as the emotional turbulence within personal relationships. All three songs reflect different feelings, but come together in the same world. Sonically we think these songs show some diversity in our sound and a clear example of our range of what can be expected from future releases, especially going into our first full length.”
Hailing from Hudson Valley, NY, Soul Blind pushes the boundaries of alternative rock with a rich collage of sounds and an injection of hardcore attitude. Formed in 2018, the band has a nuanced approach to songwriting – you’ll hear inspiration from the likes of The Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, and Deftones alongside nods to Oasis and Third Eye Blind. The group made their debut with the Willpower EP in 2018, followed by Untitled later that year and a handful of promo singles in 2019. Each release has garnered critical acclaim from fans as well as outlets like No Echo, Stereogum, New Noise Magazine and many others.
