November 2, 2021—“Paddle To The Stars,” the new song from Seattle-based seven-piece band The Dip, is debuting today via Dualtone Records—their first release in partnership with the label. Watch/share a special animated video for the song HERE.
Self-produced by the band and recorded at their self-made studio in Seattle’s Central District, “Paddle To The Stars” puts forth the groove-heavy, richly detailed sound the band has become known for, expertly matching their sophisticated musicianship with a strikingly loose energy. Reflecting on the song, lead singer Tom Eddy shares, “This song is about a person who was reserved and emotionally unavailable in the past but decides that the person they love is important enough that they’re really going to do whatever it takes to be with that person, even if it will require serious personal growth and honest reflection.”
In celebration of the new music, the band will embark on an extensive headline tour next spring with newly confirmed shows at Seattle’s The Showbox at the Market, Boston’s Paradise, New York’s Bowery Ballroom (two nights), Washington, DC’s Black Cat, Atlanta’s Terminal West, Nashville’s Brooklyn Bowl, Minneapolis’ Fine Line, Chicago’s Thalia Hall, Denver’s Gothic Theatre, San Francisco’s The Independent (two nights) and Los Angeles’ Lodge Room among many others. See below for complete itinerary. Special guests on the tour include i///u, Oh He Dead, The Spanks, Kiltro and Jennah Bell. Tickets go on-sale this Friday, November 5 at 10:00am local time, full details can be found at www.thedipmusic.com.
The Dip is Eddy (vocals, guitar), Brennan Carter (trumpet), Levi Gillis (tenor sax), Mark Hunter (bass), Jarred Katz (drums), Jacob Lundgren (guitar) and Evan Smith (baritone sax). Since forming, they have released two full-length albums, 2015’s The Dip and 2019’s The Dip Delivers, as well as two EPs, 2016’s Won’t Be Coming Back and 2020’s instrumental, The Dip Plays It Cool—all of which were written, produced and released by the band themselves. With the releases, The Dip has garnered immense grassroots success with over 94 million streams on Spotify to date and continues to receive widespread attention, with KEXP Radio declaring, “one of the most exciting and joyous acts to emerge in recent years.” Moreover, Rolling Stone praised The Dip Delivers saying, “cranks out a retro song worthy of an Eldorado’s FM stereo” and No Depression proclaimed, “a heart-felt homage to the originators presented masterfully by a new generation.” Known for their freewheeling, electric concerts, the band has performed sold-out shows across the country garnering a dedicated fanbase as they went. In addition to numerous headline tours, The Dip has also performed at several renowned festivals such as BottleRock, Pilgrimage, Bumbershoot, Forecastle, Hinterland and more.
