Chicago Noise Rockers death pose Sign to Brutal Panda Records

Release New Single “Double Hockey Sticks”

Debut Album Coming Fall of 2023

death pose are a brand new heavy-as-shit band from Chicago, IL. Originally known as big bird., the band formed in 2022 from the ashes of numerous punk/hardcore/indie bands including Typesetter, The Sky We Scrape, Little Teeth, etc. After quickly releasing a three-song EP, they supported heavy hitters like The Casket Lottery, Local H and Hum’s Matt Talbot, along with an appearance at Gainesville’s 20th anniversary of the legendary Fest.

“‘Double Hockey Sticks’ in general is about the concept of ‘God Washing’ music, in which pop music (among other things in popular culture) is appropriated, and their meaning is bent in a new, originally unintended context to fit their narrative and/or to draw people into church.

“I experienced this first hand for a number of years in my youth when I was very much part of that culture and attended a “hip” church out in the suburbs of Chicago, which means the youth pastor had a goatee and a gold hoop earring. Back then I played bass in the youth group’s church band and didn’t realize for a very long time that a lot of the songs we were playing were actually songs written about a girl and had nothing to do with faith/religion, yet kids would be lifting their hands in the air in worship – tears streaming down their faces. It was only when we played ‘Everything You Want’ by Vertical Horizon that I was like ‘wait, whut?’. Needless to say, it was an interesting and formative time in my life.”

death pose has just signed a deal with Brutal Panda Records and will release their debut full-length this Fall.

The track, along with their forthcoming debut LP, was produced by Jeff Dean (Alkaline Trio, Braid, The Story So Far, Samiam) and mastered by Alan Douches (Converge, Every Time I Die, Thrice, Mastodon, Dillinger Escape Plan) at West West Side. The album is an incendiary statement of down-tuned, punk/post-hardcore influenced noise rock replete with indelible hooks, sharp angular riffage, and a rhythm section that resonates with urgency. More details will be announced shortly.

death pose commented on the signing:

“We’re so incredibly stoked to be joining the Brutal Panda Records family with the release of our debut album. It’s a rare thing to have a single conversation with someone and immediately know in the core of your being that someone really ‘gets’ what you do, but we had that right away with BPR. We can’t wait for y’all to hear this noise.”

death pose 2023 Tour Dates:

Chris Ianuzzi: Distant Suns/Wide Side two-sided single

Story: Ralph Greco, Jr. Spacey blips flow into a synth-led danceable beat, with vocals making more music than they do an actual statement on the first tune of NYC-composer Chris Ianuzzi’s new double single.
