Suzannah Weiss Launches Jesus Christ Pornstar, Bringing Faith and Sexual Freedom Into the Same Conversation

LOS ANGELES — Writer and sexologist Suzannah Weiss, who also performs as Shoshanna Blanca, is expanding Jesus Christ Pornstar, a performance-art project created for people who have been told that spirituality and sexual freedom cannot occupy the same space.

The project approaches that tension through an ambitious mix of body art, music, prayer, education and erotic performance. Rather than treating sexuality as something separate from spiritual life, Weiss uses each format to examine how the body connects with divinity, gender and personal freedom.

Two central series carry much of that exploration. The Second Cumming reframes Jesus and Mary Magdalene through a psychedelic story of enlightenment, love and forgiveness, while Uncovering Eve challenges the belief that women’s bodies are cursed by reconsidering Eve, womanhood and embodiment.

Other pieces push the concept in sharply different directions. Hysterical Literature Bible Readings pairs self-pleasure with prayer, Jesus Lessons combines femdom and sex education, and The Porn Psychic draws on Weiss’s work as a psychic medium for topless, bed-based predictions about the apocalypse.

 

“I created Jesus Christ Pornstar to explore what happens when we stop treating the body as a problem religion needs to solve,” Weiss said. “I want people to feel at home in their faith and in themselves without measuring their purity against someone else’s rules. A spiritual life can make room for curiosity, respect and pleasure.”

That message is backed by a decade of writing and sex education focused on women’s bodies, pleasure and sexual agency. Under her own name, Weiss wrote Subjectified: Becoming a Sexual Subject and Eve’s Blessing: Uncovering the Lost Pleasure Behind Female Pain, which received the 2026 AASECT Book Award for General Audience.

Now pursuing a PhD in clinical sexology, Weiss is writing a dissertation about religious sex workers and the ways they reconcile faith with their vocation. Her academic background includes cognitive neuroscience, gender and sexuality studies, modern culture and media, psychology and sexual health. Drawing from Reconstructionist Judaism and Quakerism, she also reinterprets biblical passages about sex and love through her work as a sex and relationship coach.

Weiss’s publishing history includes thousands of articles about gender, sexuality, relationships and wellness, with work appearing in The New York Times, The Washington Post, New York Magazine, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Elle and Playboy. She has also served as an editor for Teen Vogue, Complex and Vice, and contributed to multiple anthologies.
