“What’s remarkable is how such a new band have both hit upon and fully delivered on their genuinely idiosyncratic vision so early on.” Kerrang Magazine

“It’s taken a long time, but it’s an enticing, many-layered listen.” PROG Magazine

Acclaimed young alt-pop/prog trio EXPLORING BIRDSONG have released a cover version of “Diamond Eyes” by Deftones.

Story: Ralph Greco, Jr.

“Collectively, ‘Diamond Eyes’ is one of our favourite songs of all time,” comment the band. “It really feels like a song that is within the same realm of what we try to do as a band too, which made it in turn feel like a perfect song for us to put our own spin on. The weight of the riffs in the original are so crushing, but what we feel really makes this song so special is the chorus, so having the focus of our version be the harmony and melody felt like the most ‘us’ thing to do.”

EXPLORING BIRDSONG’s version of “Diamond Eyes” directly follows their sophomore EP ‘Dancing in the Face of Danger’. The band wanted to draw a line in the sand following ‘Dancing in the Face of Danger’ to mark the start of a new chapter as a band, and, through coincidence, eventually ended up working with a new production team (Tom Peters – engineering and mixing & Grant Berry – mastering) which has helped bookend the ‘Dancing in the Face of Danger’ era.

“We wanted to experiment sonically before heading into full length album territory, which is why we think it feels different to anything we’ve released previously.”

The young group will join KATATONIA as special guest for their shows in Ireland next week – the first live performances since their European debut at Euroblast festival (Cologne, DE) and the five city inaugural headline tour across the UK in September 2021, including London, Manchester and Birmingham, and following successful support tours with the likes of Sleep Token and Thank You Scientist. Whilst the band refuse to be pigeon-holed to one genre, they evoke moments of Agent Fresco, Kate Bush, Everything Everything, Sleep Token and Karnivool.
