Vanniall Becomes a Fallen Angel in AJ Hamilton’s London Fine Art Portrait Series

LOS ANGELES, CA — Vanniall has collaborated with London photographer and multidisciplinary artist AJ “The TogFather” Hamilton on a new fine-art portrait series depicting the performer as a dramatic crimson fallen angel.

The London shoot uses full red body paint, horns, black feathered wings and an apocalyptic environment inspired by Renaissance painting. The production’s hand-painted set and styling were realized in-camera.

Hamilton’s imagery draws from mythology, classical compositions, dramatic lighting and elaborately designed spaces. The new Vanniall photographs are being shown through her website and are slated to appear in Hamilton’s artist collections in 2027.

“I knew AJ’s work before we shot, so I was excited to see what would happen when his world and mine collided,” said Vanniall. “We discussed our favorite stories and myths, and I shared an interest in the idea of The Demon that we then explored together. Being painted completely red, putting on those horns and wings and entering into this huge otherworldly scene felt less like posing for photos and more like stepping inside a painting. It’s dramatic, strange and beautiful in exactly the way I hoped it would be.”

Hamilton explained the symbolism behind the collaboration: “I interpreted her as asking for the playful nature of the demon but also I love the idea of reclaiming the things society has taught us to see as monstrous, shameful or undesirable, bad, and turning them into something sacred, powerful and worthy of reverence and awe. The devil is a great archetype for that but also so misunderstood. As for the gold accents, I always associate that colour with divinity, royalty and again sacredness. I feel Vanniall does an incredible job at celebrating herself and her body within spaces that usually encourage people to apologise or conceal themselves or minimise their identity.”

Hamilton works in photography, film, painting, styling and set design and is also an educator in London. His Hamilton Archive features collaborations with people from fashion, celebrity and adult entertainment.
