New Noise is today hosting a premiere of “Fuck You Up And Get High,” originally by punk icons The Dwarves, here covered by Nashville-based hardcore/powerviolence duo THETAN. The cover is found on the band’s Dim Times EP, which sees release later this month on Anti-Corporate Music.
Since 2011, THETAN has produced an arsenal of LPs, EPs, splits, and collaborations, including their Space Goretex collaboration with Bronx rapper Kool Keith (with guests from Gwar, Three 6 Mafia, Dwarves, Lost Dog Street Band, and more), the “Based Serenade” single with Lil B, and more over the past few years. For Record Store Day 2023, they released their new collaboration, having provided the backing music for a new Record Store Day etched 12” single with the legendary NYC hip-hop outfit Ultramagnetic MC’s.
While THETAN is currently putting the final touches on their new LP for release later this year, the band presents a succinct new EP, Dim Times. Collecting several new and previously unreleased tracks, re-recorded songs, covers of The Dwarves and Wipers, and more, the EP drops six tracks in under ten minutes. Additionally, an expansive CD version of the record features over forty bonus tracks, including nearly all the band’s vinyl-only split and compilation tracks, demos, and more, all remixed and remastered for this release. Bassist/vocalist Dan Emery handled all engineering, mixing, and mastering duties at his Anti-Corporate Music/Black Matter Mastering headquarters in Nashville, and the Dim Times cover art was handled by Ericka Poore.
With their cover of The Dwarves’ “Fuck You Up And Get High,” Emery writes, “This was just a fun one that we started playing a few years ago. Both Chad and myself are huge Dwarves fans, as some of you may have picked up on from Blag’s presence on our Kool Keith collab. This song is also just hilarious for us to play because it’s not like we are living wild ass lifestyles anymore. I mean, I’ll still fuck you up, but only if I reeeeeallly have to. And then still, I probably won’t get high after. Probably.”
