“Injecting blastbeats and mosh-worthy riffs with classic soul and reggae samples, the Los Angeles hardcore band’s debut insists on a complex and irreducible vision of Blackness.” – Pitchfork

“A New Tomorrow allows listeners to live through Zulu’s musical outspokenness, but also encourages them to join them in their community of love and acceptance.” – NPR

“It’s heavy, it’s fierce, it’s irreverent, and it’s uncompromising. It’s everything that hardcore should be in 2023.” – Afropunk

“Impactful, ambitious, meaty, rich: the debut LP from Zulu is showing why they are one of the most exciting bands in the hardcore scene.” – Knotfest

Los Angeles, CA hardcore band Zulu have been having a huge year and today, they add to it with the announcement of a co-headline tour with Soul Glo (Epitaph Records) that will take them across the United States this fall. Support comes from Atlanta’s Playytime and tickets are on sale on Friday, July 14th at 10AM local time.

This will be Zulu’s first full US run since the release of their critically acclaimed album A New Tomorrow (March 2023, Flatspot Records). Following a run with Show Me The Body and fresh off a European tour, the band has become know for their fun and chaotic live shows, mixing their mosh-fueled songs with dance-ready interludes. In addition to the tour, Zulu has upcoming performances at The Rumble in Chicago next weekend, The Tribes of Da Moon festival in New York City on August 20th, and Alabama’s Furnace Fest in September. Full dates below.

Formed as a solo project by vocalist Anaiah Lei in 2018 and then joined by guitarist Braxton Marcellous, the Los Angeles based band has since been rounded out by guitarist Dez Yusuf, bassist Satchel Brown and drummer Christine Cadette. A New Tomorrow serves as the band’s first full-length, after making an early impact with EPs Our Day Will Come (2019) and My People… Hold On (2020). Taking on the task of self-producing the record, the band immersed themselves in collaborator Zach Tuch’s (Dare, Trash Talk) studio in the valley. After spending months toying with different instrumentation and samples, and pulling influences ranging from reggae to death metal, the result is an eclectic 15 tracks. With A New Tomorrow receiving praise across the music space, from NPR and Pitchfork to Revolver and Kerrang, it has allowed the band to tour relentlessly, including a recent run supporting Show Me The Body and performing at festivals on an international scale. As 2023 rolls on, Zulu are looking towards a bright and busy future in hardcore and beyond.
