Mouse’s Ear Offers Officer Jasmine Reed $10,000 to Judge Its Sexting Contest

The Knoxville club turns a headline-making police texting scandal into an audacious August 28 promotion—but Reed has not accepted or confirmed the invitation.

KNOXVILLE, TENN. — The Mouse’s Ear Knoxville has taken the phrase “ripped from the headlines” literally. The adult-entertainment club is publicly offering Knoxville Police Officer Jasmine Reed $10,000 to judge its Sexting Contest on Friday, August 28, transforming one of the city’s most talked-about police stories into the kind of promotion only The Mouse’s Ear would attempt.

The invitation follows reports that an internal investigation uncovered flirtatious and sexually suggestive text exchanges between Reed and Knoxville Police Chief Paul Noel. Noel was suspended for one month without pay; published reports say he remains the city’s police chief and is expected to return September 6. Reed is not facing discipline over those messages, according to local reporting.

“When Knoxville needs an expert opinion on a sexy text, who are we to argue with experience?” said Mike Dickinson, regional manager for Pony Clubs. “We heard Officer Reed has some time on her hands, so we’re offering her $10,000 to help us separate the smooth talkers from the people who should have left it in drafts.”

There is, however, a serious disclaimer beneath the joke: Reed has been invited, but she has not accepted or confirmed that she will participate. The club says the $10,000 offer is contingent on Reed appearing at The Mouse’s Ear Knoxville and serving as an official contest judge. Until that happens, the offer is a public invitation—not a booked appearance.

If Reed does show, she will be asked to evaluate entries billed as the funniest, filthiest and most unforgettable messages contestants can produce. The club says judging will focus on creativity, delivery and whether a text is “hot enough to cause an internal investigation”—a line that makes clear this is equal parts contest, topical comedy and guerrilla marketing.

“Some people delete their messages,” the club said. “We’re putting the best ones on trial.”

The Sexting Contest is scheduled for 11 p.m. Friday, August 28, at The Mouse’s Ear Knoxville, 8873 Kingston Pike in Knoxville. The club identifies itself as an 18-and-over, totally nude, BYOB establishment. Valid identification is required, and the venue advises that restrictions may apply.

The promotion is brash, opportunistic and impossible to separate from the scandal that inspired it. It is also carefully worded where it counts: The Mouse’s Ear has put $10,000 on the table, but Officer Reed’s name is not yet on the judges’ card. Whether she answers the invitation or leaves this particular message unread may become the final punch line.
